TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's swimming & diving teams started the 2016-17 season in fine fashion as both teams defeated RIT at Robison Pool. RPI's men's team posted a 187-109 win, while the women triumphed, 198-102.
Rensselaer's women won all but one event with junior
Jessica Sauve capturing three of her own. She won the 200 free (1:58.07), the 50 free (25.33) and the 500 free (5:22.65). She was also part of the victorious 200 medley relay team (1:46.22). Her twin sister, Danielle, captured the 1000 free (11:09.7) and the 100 free (54.36) before helping the 400 free relay team to a win with a time of 3:43.54.
Shanny Lin, another junior, also had multiple victories as she won the 200 fly in a time of 2:06.0 as well as the 100 fly (58.91) and 200 individual medley (2:16.09). She also swam on the 200 medley relay.
Amanda Wang was also on the 200 relay before going on to win the 100 back (59.29) and the 200 backstroke (2:10.60).Â
Freshman diver
Jessica Kugelman won off both boards, winning the 1-meter with 212.50 points and the 3-meter with 234.45 points.
RPI's men won all the swimming events in the meet, which included 12 indvidual races and two relays. Multiple winners included senior Richard Dong in the 100 breast (59.86), 100 fly (54.62) and the 200 IM (2:04.11). Sophomore Noah Pan was first to the wall in the 100 backstroke (53.15) and the 200 back (1:58.92).
Pan, Dong, Justin Chang and John Alberta won the 200 medley relay (1:37.66). Alberta, Chang, Spencer Marquardt and Andrew Klobucher won the 400 free relay in a time of 3:16.06.
RPI's men and women return to action next Saturday at Ithaca College (1pm).
