ONEONTA, N.Y. - Senior
Colleen Morris scored in her final collegiate game and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team defeated SUNY Oneonta, 2-1, in a non-league game. The victory was the third in a row and fourth in the last five games for the Engineers, who finish the campaign with a 10-7 record. It is the second straight season that Rensselaer has double digit victories after going 11-6 in 2015.
Morris, a midfielder ,put the Engineers in front in the 30th minute when she flicked a shot over the Red Dragons goalkeeper, Danell Jones. The goal was the second of the season for Morris, one of three seniors on the team, along with
Claire Cecilio and
Colleen Fowler.
Oneonta tied the game about 16 minutes later when Nicole Johnston scored off a penalty corner pass from Carissa Warren.
The score remained tied until the 52nd minute when RPI sophomore
Mikaela DiBello beat Jones on a rebound for her team-leading 10th goal of the season.
Sophomore
Rachel Kaufman made the lead stand as she finished with seven saves in the second half and nine in the game. Jones stopped six shots for Oneonta (4-12).
Both teams had 15 shots in total and both earned 11 penalty corners.
