Edgington Leads Field Hockey to Win

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - Junior Jane Edgington scored two goals and assisted on two more in leading the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) field hockey team to a 4-0 non-league victory over Keuka College.

Edgington (Amherst, NY / Amherst Central) came into the game having scored once on the season. She doubled that output when she collected a rebound of a Nessa Costa (San Diego, CA / Del Norte) shot in the middle of the circle and shot it over Elizabeth Sherman, the goalkeeper who had gone down in making the initial save.

It was less than two minutes later when Edgington potted her second goal of the game, this one coming at 22:20. Sophomore Mikaela DiBello (Mahopac, NY / Mahopac) carried the ball down the right wing toward the goal before passing across the front of the goal to the far post. Edgington received the pass and scored, beating Sherman as she came across in attempt to make the save.

Junior Mekayla Wakeman (Unadilla, NY / Sydney) increased RPI's lead to three goals at 25:43 with her first of the season. Edgington injected the ball to Wakeman at the top of the arc on a penalty corner and her shot to the left post eluded everyone for the goal. A similar play at 62:13 closed out the scoring as Edgington sent the ball to Wakeman, this time on the right side of the arc, and her shot to the right post gave her a second goal and the team a 4-0 lead.

The Engineers dominated the game statistically, outshooting the Wolves 28-0 with 25 shots on goal. RPI had a 13-1 edge in penalty corners.

Kayla Bell (Winchester, MA / Winchester), a sophomore, earned the win in goal. Sherman finished with 21 saves on the other end and Alexandra Pendell had a defensive save for Keuka.

RPI, which is now 6-5, travels to No. 9 University of Rochester for a Liberty League game on Saturday at 2pm. The Wolves, who are now 0-10, host Nazareth College on Tuesday at 5:30pm.
