POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Both the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's and men's swimming & diving teams eclipsed 18o points and the Engineers swept Vassar College on Saturday. The women posted a 183-105 win to improve to 3-1, while the men moved to 4-0 with a 188-105 triumph.
RPI, which has now won 13 straight men's dual meets, saw John Alberta, Richard Dong and Alex Chused all win multiple individual events. Alberta won the 50 free (22.38) and the 200 back (2:01.78) for his second and third wins of the afternoon. He and three teammates - Noah Pan, Eric Liu and Justin Chang - opened the day with a win in the 400 medley relay (3:36.82).
Dong was victorious in the 100 back (55:47) and 100 free (49.38), while Chused captured first place finishes off both diving boards. He had 259.30 points from 3 meters and 255.05 from the 1 meter board.
Freshman
Jessica Kugelman also won from both diving boards, posting scores of 257.30 off the 1 meter and 239.60 from 3 meters. She was one of four Engineers to touch the wall first in multiple individual events. Junior
Jessica Sauve won the 200 free (2:02.78) and 50 free (25.81),
Amanda Wang won the 100 backstroke (1:00.41) and 200 back (2:13.35) and
Siena Sara was first in the 100 (1:10.11) and 200 (2:29.49) breaststroke.Â
Sara, Wang and Sauve, along with
Michaela Yamashita, combined to win the 400 medley relay. Yamashita went on to earn a victory in the 100 free with a time of 55.95.
Both teams return to action on Sunday when they host Hartwick College in a dual meet at Robison Pool in Troy (1pm).
