TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's swimming & diving teams entered the final event needing a win and at least a third place finish and the Engineers did just that in defeating Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) 151-148 in a dual meet at Robison Pool. A 188-113 win by the RPI women gave the home teams a sweep.
Trailing 144-138 going into the 200 free relay, Rensselaer got a win by less than a second from the foursome of John Alberta, Andrew Klobucher, Brandon Koo and Richard Dong. WPI had the second place team but RPI's Charly Blazy, Noah Pan, Alexander Sullivan and Justin Chang finished third, two seconds ahead of a second WPI team, for the point swing the home Engineers needed.Â
With the victory, Rensselaer improves to 3-0 in dual meets and extends its winning streak to 12 consecutive over the course of the past three years. RPI's women are now 2-1 and have won 14 of its last 15 dual meets.
The Engineers had numerous multiple first place finishers, including four each from
