AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Senior
Greg Echeverria threw a complete game, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball dropped its Spring Trip opener to Curry College, 3-0, on Saturday. With the win, the Colonels improve to 1-3, while the Engineers fall to 1-6.
Echeverria (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) allowed three runs (1 earned) on five hits in 9.0 innings. He struck out 12 without a walk. Curry starter, David Griffin (Hanover, MA/Hanover), went 9.0 as well, surrendering just six hits, with eight strikeouts and a walk.
The Colonels scored the game's first run in the top of the 3rd, when centerfielder Kyle Connors (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton) singled to lead off the inning, before coming around to score on a wild pitch.
Curry took advantage of a pair of RPI errors in the 4th to double its advantage (2-0). Connors drove in the second run with a ground ball back to Echeverria.
A throwing error in the top of the 9th capped the scoring for the Colonels, as pinch runner John Cave came home from third.

Six different RPI players collected hits in the game, including senior Mike Croke (South Hadley, MA/South Hadley), who went 1 for 3 with a bunt single. Junior
