Women's Lax Holds Off Westfield St.

Engineers take closely contested game in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - Four different players netted a a pair of goals for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team, in narrow 10-9 win over Westfield State University, on Thursday morning at the National Training Center. With the win, the Engineers improve to 4-1, while the Owls drop to 1-3.

Rachel Testa staked the Owls to an early lead, scoring an unassisted goal less than two minutes into the game. RPI, however, responded with three unanswered goals before Testa answered again to cut the Engineers lead to 3-2 with 17:43 remaining in the first half.
 
After Michelle Bolger added another RPI goal, Stephanie Godek scored her first goal of the game with just over two minutes left in the half to send Westfield into the break trailing, 4-3.
 
The Engineers scored the first four goals of the second half, including two by Mackenzie O'Neil, pushing their lead to 8-3.

Westfield State then bounced back with four straight goals of their own. Freshman Sydney Lambert sandwiched unassisted goals around two consecutive goals from Godek, the last of which pulled Westfield within one (8-7) with 9:56 remaining in the game.
 
The teams then traded goals twice, with Testa's third goal marking the final tally with 12 seconds remaining. The Owls had one final chance at the end, but could not convert.

Aleena Milinski (4-0) earned the win in goal for the Engineers, stopping three shots in the opeing 48:07. Rebecca Wilen had three saves over the final 11:53. 

Rensselaer is back in action on March 26, when it visits Montclair State (1pm). Westfield State travels to Keene State on Tuesday (7pm).
