WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team recorded 20 hits, but fell to Clarkson University, 13-12, in non-league play at Chain of Lakes Park on Friday. With the win, the Golden Knights improve to 3-7, while the Engineers drop to 1-12.
RPI built an early 8-2 lead after two innings, thanks to a seven-run bottom of the second. The Engineers pounded out six hits in the frame, including a two-run double by junior
Jason Ramos. Sophomore JT Sawyer also plated a pair with an opposite field single to right.
Clarkson got one run back in the third, but the Engineers answered with one of their own in the fourth, scoring on a Golden Knights throwing error.
A six-run sixth drew Clarkson even at 9-9. The inning was highlighted by a bases-clearing triple off the bat of sophomore Will Coleman.

The Golden Knights tied the game again (10-10) in the seventh, as Vince Granuzzo singled up the middle to bring home Greg Jasek.
Sophmore Wes Hawkins and
Matt Lawrence had the answer again, as each brought home single runs in the bottom of the seventh with singles.
Clarkson freshman catcher Brad Pearson, who had four hits on the day, tied the game at 12-12 in the top of the eighth, doubling to right, to bring in Chris Miller and Alex Lavigne.
Coleman then delivered the go-ahead run in the 10th, singling to right to plate Miller.
Ted Wilson (2-1) threw the final 3.2 innings to earn the victory. He allowed six hits and had a strikeout. RPI freshman
Kyle LaMantia (0-1) took the loss, giving up two runs on four hits in 2.1 innings.
The Engineers are back in action next weekend, when they host Rochester for a four-game serires at Robison Field, starting on Saturday at 1pm. Clarkson visits RIT on Friday and Saturday.
