TROY, N.Y. - Junior Ashley Flick notched a game-high four points to lead the Clarkson University women's lacrosse team to a 9-2 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Friday afternoon at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Golden Knights improve to 12-2 overall (6-1 Liberty League), while the Engineers drop to 6-6 (2-4 Liberty League).
Flick (Watertown, NY/Watertown) scored three goals and added an assist, while classmate Kate Dillon (St. Albans, VT/Bellows Free Academy) had two goals and one helper. The Engineers held Clarkson's top-scorer, Christine Wright (Watertown, NY/Immaculate Heart Central), to just one assist, despite registering a team-high five shots.
RPI saw junior
Sophie Hager (Northport, NY/Northport) net her team-leading 19th goal of the year to open the scoring at 5;44 of the first half. The man-up tally was unassisted.
The hosts maintained that lead until 12:18 left in the stanza, when Flick potted an equalizer. Less than two minutes later, Dillon set up senior Emma Jeffery (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) for seventh goal of the season, before Flick made it 3-1, 9:25 before halftime.
Sophomores Casey Shannon (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) and Taylor Collins (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) extended the Clarkson lead to 5-1, five minutes into the second half.
The Engineers drew to within 5-2 at 13:13, when freshman
Maddy Aslansan (Philadelphia, PA/Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) buried her 12th of the campaign.
Clarkson came right back to score the final four goals of the game, including two from Dillon. Flick and Wright each picked up assists during the game-ending run.
