TROY, N.Y. - In a game between nationally-ranked opponents that featured seven ties and eight lead changes, junior Andrew Jarrett scored with 2:55 left in overtime to give No. 4 St. Lawrence University an 8-7 victory over No. 17 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a Liberty League men's lacrosse game at East Campus Stadium.

RECORDS
  • Rensselaer: 10-3; 4-2 Liberty League ... RPI saw its 9-game winning streak snapped ... The Engineers fall into third place in conference standings ... RPI will travel to St. Lawrence for Liberty League Semifinals on May 6.
  • St. Lawrence: 14-1; 5-1 Liberty League ... SLU extends winning streak to six games ... The Saints secure second place in league and will host RPI in Liberty League Semifinals on May 6.

NOTEWORTHY
  • The Saints earned the victory when they scored on the only possession of overtime ... Jarrett broke down a defender in a 1-on-1 situation to the goalie's right and fired a shot into the bottom left corner of the cage ... The goal was his second of the game and 13th of the year.
  • Rensselaer junior Matt Hall tied the game at 7-7 with 2.6 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter with a goal between the goalie's legs ... Hall collected the ball off a scramble with time winding down and notched his 24th of the year, this one from the goalie's left.
  • St. Lawrence took a 7-6 lead with 52 seconds remaining in the contest on a goal by senior Jeremy Vautour, who nearly had the ball stick-checked out of his pocket ... The goal was the first of the game for Vautour, who entered the contest with 16 goals in his three previous games and a team-best 41 on the year.
  • The Saints tied the game at 6-6 with 1:31 to play in the fourth quarter when Jaime DNicola took a pass from Vautour and scored while cutting down the right side.
 
  • RPI opened the game's scoring on a goal by freshman Lucas Bastarache from the high slot at 11:47 of the first quarter.
  • St. Lawrence went ahead by a goal after one frame with unassisted goals from Brett McCormack (7:21) and Connor Brimley (6:46) less than a minute apart from each other.
  • The Engineers scored three of the four goals scored in the second quarter, incuding a pair from junior attack Breanainn McNeally, who now has a team-best 42 on the season.
  • Rensselaer took its first lead of the game, 4-3, when Jake Weidner scored with 1:33 left in the second quarter ... It was a man-up marker, RPI's second straight.
  • Each of the Engineers' four first half goals were assisted - by four different players ... St. Lawrence's three first half goals were unassisted.
  • SLU won 7 of 9 faceoffs and held a 21-6 edge in ground balls at the half ... Caleb Kane had five GBs in the first 30 minutes ... Alec Dietsch was 6 of 7 on faceoffs.
 
  • Jarrett scored the only goal of the third quarter when he cut to his left and scored on a shot across his body with 1:02 remaining in the frame.
  • McNeally put the home team back in front when he picked up a loose ball on a rebound and tucked it into the net from close range at 11:38 of the fourth ... The goal was RPI's first of the game without an assist.
  • Charlie Duprey tied the game 1:26 later with his second of the game, turning and firing into the cage.
  • Hall then found Weidner, who scored with a quick release and RPI led, 6-5, with 8:13 to play.

  • St. Lawrence led in shots (39-21), ground balls (42-27) and faceoffs (13 of 19) ... Dietsch won 11 of 16 faceoffs.
  • Kane had a game-high seven ground balls ... John Phillips and McNeally led RPI with four GBs apiece.
  • SLU's Conor Healey was held off the scoresheet despite entering the contest with 72 points (36 goals, 36 assists) in 14 games ... Vautour came into the game with 52 points (41, 11).
