DeLucca Leads #RPIWLax Past Vassar

Senior captain matches career-highs in goals (4) and points (5) in a game

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Senior captain Erin DeLucca scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team to a 10-8 victory over Vassar College on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers improve to 5-4 overall (1-2 Liberty League), while the Brewers drop to 5-3 (1-1 Liberty League).

After freshman Maddy Aslansan opened the scoring less than four minutes in, DeLucca answered a Vassar goal with two her of own, to open up a 3-1 lead.

Storm Sideleau netted her 21st goal of the year for the hosts to make it 3-2, but a 3-0 run by the Engineers opened up 6-2 advantage. Freshman Sophie Sreden capped the rally with her first collegiate goal.

The teams then traded scores until Sideleau made it 6-4 right before halftime.

Just 1:57 into the second half, Julia Trudell brought Vassar within a single goal (6-5), but that was close as the Brewers would get on the day as RPI answered with four straight tallies at the other end.

DeLucca had two of the four goals on the decisive run, giving her 11 on the season.

Vassar closed out the game by scoring the last three goals, but it wasn't enough as the Engineers were able to hold on for their first conference victory.

Freshman Rebecca Wilen had a career-best 10 saves in the game, including eight in the second half. Cristin Caolo had four stops at the other end of the field.

RPI is back in action tomorrow afternoon, when it travels to Bard (3pm). Vassar hosts Skidmore (2pm).
