Union, N.J. - Junior Shauna LaMaina scored the game's only goal with under 15 minutes remaining in the second half and the Kean University field hockey team improved to 4-0 by defeating Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a non-league contest. The Engineers had their winning streak snapped at two and fall to 2-2.

After 57 minutes of scoreless action, Krista LaMaina, Shauna's sister, injected the ball on a penalty corner, finding Shauna at the top of the circle. Shauna took the shot and scored through goalkeeper Rachel Kaufman's (Morristown, NJ / Morristown) legs for her second goal of the season. The assist was the second for Krista, who is also a junior.

The Engineers opened the game by earning two penalty corners and getting three shots in the first four minutes, but could not find the back of the cage.

Following an RPI timeout 14 minutes into the second half, Rensselaer had its third penalty corner of the game, but an infraction was called and the ball went the other way. That is when Kean earned a corner, its third of the half and eighth of the game, that it scored on.

The Cougars ended with an 8-4 edge in corners and an 11-5 (8-2 on goal) advantage in shots. Mikaela DiBello (Mahopac, NY / Mahopac) and Colleen Fowler (Acton, MA / Acton-Boxborough Regional) both had two shots for the visitors.

Kaufman finished with six saves and Taylor Clink (Binghamton, NY / Whitney Point) had a defensive save. Goalkeeper Erin Smith had two saves for Kean.
