Matt LaBranche made two saves and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team played the University of Rochester to a 0-0 draw in its home opener on Saturday at East Campus Stadium. With the tie, the Engineers move to 2-4-2, while the Yellowjackets are now 6-0-1.
Rochester held a 3-1 edge in shots after 45 minutes of play. The Yellowjackets had attempts in the 34th and 35th minutes, but Mitch Volis missed high and Mario Tapia was turned away by RPI freshman goalkeeper

Rensselaer's lone shot in the half came on a header by freshman centerback
Brandon Pirog in the 43rd minute.
Play picked up in the second half, with the Engineers earning five of their six corners and five of their eight shots. Rochester turned in the game's best chance in the 54th minute, when Geoffrey Rouin hit the left post from distance.
RPI senior
Dylan Weitz had the only shot attempt for either team in overtime, but his 100th minute try went high.
LaBranche finishe with three saves, while Patrick Conway had one at the other end of the field.
The Engineers are back in action on Friday, when they travel to RIT for their Liberty League opener (4pm). Rochester visits Alfred on Tuesday (7pm).
