TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's and women's swimming & diving teams both eclipsed the 160 point mark in defeating Skidmore College in dual meets at Robison Pool. The No. 23 men improved to 7-0 with a 166-97 win, while the No. 23 women were victorious by a score of 164-97. Combined, the Engineers won all but three events.
Multiple individuals earned first place finishes either on their own or as part of a relay. Senior Richard Dong won the 50 backstroke, the 100 breaststroke and was part of the victorious 200 medley relay team. Freshman Joseph Conway and sophomore Alexander Sullivan were also on the relay before winning the 500 free and 50 fly, respectively. Conway touched nearly nine seconds in front of the runner-up.Â
Noah Pan won a pair of individual events, taking the 100 free and the 200 individual medley, the latter by almost 12 seconds. Seven others won single events, including Jesse Rotering from the 1-meter diving board by 12 points and freshman Eric Xu in the 1000 free by 10 seconds.
Danielle Sauve had the most wins on the day with victories in the 200 medley relay, 50 breaststroke, 500 free and 200 individual medley. The junior had a 42 second win in the 500 and a 12 second margin in the IM. Sauve's twin sister, Jessica, was first in the 200 free, the 100 free and the 50 fly.
Shanny Lin won the 1000 free - by 26 seconds - and the 100 backstroke and senior
Siena Sara took the 100 breast and was part of the 200 medley relay team.
Michaela Yamashita, who was also part of the victorious relay, won the 50 backstroke and
Amanda Wang, the fourth member of the 200 medley relay, won the individual 100 butterfly.Â
In diving, freshman
Jessica Kugelman won off both boards, taking the 1 meter by 80.55 points and the 3 meter by 52 points.
