Men's Soccer Fall to RIT, 3-0

Tigers receive two goals from senior Dean Kouroupas in shutout win

TROY, N.Y. – The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) men's soccer team scored two first half goals en route to a 3-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Friday afternoon at East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Tigers improve to 4-5-2 overall (2-2-1 Liberty League), while the Engineers drop to 7-4-1 (2-1-1 Liberty League).

Senior Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) opened the scoring in the 26th minute, darting up the left side, before cutting towards the top of the six for a right-footed finish into the right side-netting.

The Tigers made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute of play, when sophomore Mark-Vincent Sansone (Hilton, NY/Aquinas Institute) headed home the corner kick service of classmate Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) for his second goal of the year.

RIT took its 2-0 lead into halftime, along with an 8-1 advantage in shots.

Kouroupas added an insurance goal in the 68th minute, receiving a headed through ball from Garno, before racing up the right flank and beating Rensselaer sophomore goalkeeper Matt LaBranche (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional) inside the right post.

The Engineers out-shot the Tigers 7-4 in the second half, but found the target with just one of those attempts, which was kept out by RIT junior goalie Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook).

Freshman centerback Trevor Bisson (Baton Rouge, LA/Episcopal) led RPI with two shot attempts, while classmate Joe Di Miceli (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside) found the crossbar with his first half free kick – the team's best chance to score on the day.

Rensselaer is back in action tomorrow afternoon, when it hosts Hobart at ECAV Stadium (5pm). RIT travels to Skidmore tomorrow (2pm).
