ITHACA, N.Y. – Sophomore
Dylan Confair scored the overtime-winning goal to send the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers improve to 8-5-1 (3-3-1 Liberty League), while the Bombers drop to 7-6-2 (2-4-1 Liberty League).
Confair broke a 1-1 deadlock in the 109th minute, claiming a ball that skipped through the top of the Ithaca penalty area and firing it past Bombers goalkeeper Dan Hinkley for his third goal of the season.
An RPI own goal gave Ithaca a lead in the 19th minute. Nate Mansfield's long throw-in was redirected into the goal by Engineers' defender.
Freshman
Trevor Bisson equalized for the visitors just after halftime, heading in his team-leading fifth goal of the year off of a corner from classmate
Cam Law.
The tightly contested match saw Ithaca finish with a narrow 11-10 advantage in shots, while each team was able to find the frame six times. Corners favored Rensselaer, 8-7.
Confair's game-winner was his second of the season, while Law's assist was the first point of his collegiate career.
The Engineers are back in action on Wednesday, when they host Vassar at East Campus Stadium (7:30pm). Ithaca visits RIT on Wednesday (3pm).
