TROY, N.Y. - Junior Shoshana Bedrosian scored two goals to lead the Ithaca College women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a Liberty League contest at East Campus Stadium. The Bombers improve to 6-8-0 overall and 3-4-0 in the conference, while the Engineers fall to 7-6-2 and 3-3-1.
Ithaca jumped out to the lead in the 19th minute when freshman Alex Epifani (DeWitt, NY / Jamesville) intercepted a back pass 50 yards from goal and ran ahead of the defenders. She eventually chipped the ball with her left foot into the right side of the goal from 13 yards out for her fourth goal of the season.
Bedrosian (Somers, NY / Somers) scored her first of the game and seventh of the year in the 27th minute when she knocked in a Jordyn Haynes (Hoosick Falls, NY / Hoosick Falls) cross at the goal line. Haynes ran the ball down the right side and sent it toward goal with it hitting the crossbar. It caromed right to Bedrosian, who put it in off her body.
The Bombers made it 3-0 six minutes into the second half when Bedrosian finished a pass from Reid Garner (Cicero, NY / Cicero-North Syracuse) with a right-footed shot. Sarah Pirnie (Hilton, NY / Hilton) started the play from the left side, sending it to the center of the field, where Bedrosian volleyed it to Garner, whose return pass set up the midfielder.
Rensselaer puled to within two goals in the 62nd minute when senior
Dali Alarian (Folsom, CA / Vista Del Lago) headed the ball over the goalie for her second of the year. A free kick from
Bethany Hanson (Fullerton, CA / Sunny Hills) from 45 yards away bounced once before Alarian got her head on it and scoring from eight yards away.
Junior Stacey DiGiorgio (Utica, NY / Thomas R. Proctor) finished with five saves in the win.
Joey Lyons (Harwood, MD / Southern) stopped two shots in the loss for RPI, which held a 14-6 edge in shots and a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Engineers return to play on Wednesday at league foe Vassar College (4pm), while Ithaca hosts RIT in a conference matchup on Wednesday at 4pm.
