POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Amanda McFarland scored the game's only goal in leading the Vassar College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Wednesday afternoon at Gordon Field. With the win, the Brewers improve to 9-4-3 (5-2-1 Liberty League), while the Engineers drop to 7-7-2 (3-4-1 Liberty League).
After a scoreless first half, McFarland capitalized on a Brewers free kick from 20 yards out to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Her right-footed shot curled into the top left corner of the net for her sixth goal of the season. 
Rensselaer answered the 52nd minute Vassar goal with a flurry of chances, including a trio of corners kicks from sophomore 
Jacqui Richard, but were unable to work a shot on target. Classmate 
Emily Kaplan then clipped the crossbar with a long shot in the 62nd minute.
Senior 
Hannah Bordogna turned in a pair of chances in the 64th and 65th minutes, before senior center Back Jen Nesor stepped into a try from 25 yards out in the 83rd minute that sailed just over the bar. 
In the closing moments of the match, Nestor had another shot blocked, before Richard's last attempt fell into the arms of Brewers keeper Fiona Walsh.
RPI sophomore goalkeeper 
Joey Lyons finished finished with four saves on the day, while Walsh had three in picking up the clean sheet.
The Engineers conclude their regular season Saturday, when they host Clarkson at East Campus Stadium (2pm). Vassar travels to Ithaca on Saturday (2pm).
