Women's Hockey Ties Yale, 2-2

Bulldogs net tying midway through the third for share of league points

TROY, N.Y. – Juniors Josefine Hansen and Aly Tremblay each scored to help the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's hockey team to a 2-2 tie with Yale University on Saturday afternoon at the Houston Field House. With the tie, the Engineers are now 2-4-1 (0-0-1 ECAC Hockey), while the Bulldogs move to 1-1-1 (0-0-1 ECAC Hockey).

Following a scoreless first period, Hansen (Copenhagen, Denmark/Shattuck St. Mary's) opened the scoring at 6:58 of the second, snagging a failed clearing attempt and firing through traffic for her first tally of the year.

Yale pulled even at 9:59 of the second, when senior Mallory Souliotis (Acton, MA/Noble & Greenough) stuck home a rebound on the doorstep. Assists went to junior Jordan Chancellor (Ramsey, MN/The Blake School) and sophomore Laura Anderson (Lino Lakes, MN/Hill-Murray School).

Tremblay (Hayward, WI/Minnesota Revolution) put the Engineers up 2-1 at 12:15 of the second, burying a the rebound of a shot from senior Marisa Raspa (Downington, PA/North American Hockey Academy). Freshman Lauren Severson (Rockford, IL/Madison Capitals) earned the secondary assist for her first collegiate point.

Senior Courtney Pensavalle (Winchester, MA/Noble & Greenough) potted the game-tying goal with 10:04 remaining the third period, with helpers to junior Julia Yetman (Pierrefond, PQ/Kuper Academy) and Anderson.

RPI had chances to pull ahead late, with over six minutes of power play time, but were unable to sneak a third puck past Yale sophomore goaltender Tera Hoffman, who finished with 36 saves. RPI junior Lovisa Selander (Sollentuna, Sweden/SDE Riksserien) had 25 stops.

The Engineers return to the ice on Saturday afternoon, when they host Brown University (3pm). Yale visits Union College on Saturday (3pm).
