TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) swimming & diving teams jumped out to a fast start, posting wins in each of the first 11 events, and the Engineers went on to sweep Ithaca College in a dual meet at Robison Pool. RPI's women won 194-104, while the men were victorious, 191.5-106.5.
Rensselaer's women's team, which is now 2-0, boasted seven different individuals who won, led by seniors
Danielle Sauve and
Shanny Lin. Sauve was first in the 1000 free, 100 free and 500 free and Lin touched the wall first in the 200 and 100 butterfly, as well as the 200 individual medley.
Jessica Sauve, also a senior, won the 200 freestyle and 200 breaststroke to register multiple victories. Other winners for the Engineers, who won 13 events, were
Amanda Wang in the 100 backstroke,
Caitlyn Gardiner in the 100 breaststroke,
Kaitlin Joyce in the 50 free and
Emily Mayoras in the 200 backstroke. Wang and Gardiner are junior and Joyce and Mayoras are freshmen.
RPI's men won 12 events with five individuals winning two events each. Sophomore Trevor Maxfield won the 1000 free and 500 free, Noah Pan was victorious in the 100 and 200 backstroke, freshman Mark Mulder captured the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley, John Alberta touched first in the 50 and 100 free and Alex Chused won off both the 3-meter and 1-meter diving boards.
Graham Zola won the 200 free for RPI, which won the 200 medley relay. Rensselaer improves to 2-0 with the win.
The Engineers compete again on November 4 at WPI (1pm).
