Women's Swimming & Diving Now 6-0; Men Improve to 4-1

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming & diving team, ranked No. 23 in the nation, kept its perfect record intact - now 6-0 - with a 200-91 record. RPI's men's team also defeated the Hawks, 178-114, to improve to 4-1.

Eight different women won individual events for RPI, led by senior Danielle Sauve's three. Her twin sister, Jessica, took two, as did Shanny Lin and diver Jessica Kugelman. Lin also swam on a victorious relay team, along with Kaitlin Joyce and Michaela Yamashita, both of whom won single events. 

For the men, Trevor Maxfield, a sophomore, and Everett McNair, a freshman, won multiple times. Junior Noah Pan had an individual win as well as a relay victory.

Both of Rensselaer's 200 medley relay teams won to give the Engineers an early lead. Yamashita, Caitlyn Gardiner, Lin and Joyce combined to go 1:54.27, a win over nearly four seconds. The men's team of Pan, Cory Madalena, Mavin Liu and John Alberta posted a tight victory, 1:39.41 to 1:39.75, to collect the first 11 points. 

Jessica Sauve (11:00.54) and Maxfield (10:09.64) followed with wins in their respective 1000 freestyle - Sauve by nearly 20 seconds and Maxfield by 25. Freshman Emily Mayoras won the 100 back and Danielle Sauve earned the win in the 100 breaststroke before Shanny Lin and Eric Liu swept the 200 butterfly events, Lin (2:09.15) by nearly nine seconds.

McNair won his first of two events in the 50 free (22.07) and his second in the 100 free (48.47) with Erin Kane (26.02) and Joyce (55.40) winning their respective events. Yamashita and Pan both won in the 200 backstroke with Jessica Sauve (2:36.22) capturing the 200 breaststroke (by nearly 12 seconds) and Danielle winning the 500 free. Maxfield (4:56.53) won the men's free by 10 seconds. Lin won the 100 fly and Danielle Sauve won the 200 individual medley. 

Kugelman won from both the 1-meter (213.70) and 3-meter diving boards (226.60), while Jesse Rotering (212.55) and Alex Chused (217.20) earned victory in the 1- and 3-meter competitions, respectively.
