ASHLAND, Va. - Junior shortstop
Ethann Meister hit the team's first home run of the season, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball team dropped a doubleheader at Randolph-Macon College by scores of 10-4 and 7-0, on Sunday afternoon. With the wins, the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-0 on the season, while the Engineers drop to 0-3.
Meister went 3 for 4 with a solo homer in game one, while senior
Sam Lawrence was 3 for 4 with a run scored. Freshman
Christopher Palmiero got the start in the hill, allowing two runs on four hits in 3.0 innings. He struck out three without a walk.
Randoph-Macon jumped out to an 8-0 lead after four, thanks to a six-run bottom of the fourth. Meister's homer made it 8-1 in the sixth, but the Yellow Jackets answered with two in the bottom half of the inning for a 10-1 lead.

Justin Valente came through with an RBI-double in the seventh, before
Jeff Sitarski plated one with a double in the eighth. RPI then scored two more runs in the frame on a wild pitch.
In game two, Randoph-Macon scored one first inning run, before adding three more in each of the fifth and sixth innings.Â
Weston Hawkins, Yarhiel Jimenez and Meister collected the only three hits for Rensselaer, while
Erick Zecha gave up just one run on three hits in 4.0 innings. He struck out three and walked two in his first collegiate appearance.
The Engineers are back on the diamond on March 5, when they travel to Stevens for a doubleheader (12pm).
