Women's Hockey Ready for ECAC Hockey Playoffs

Engineers travel to No. 3 Clarkson for best-of-three series

BACK IN THE PLAYOFFS: Rensselaer qualified for the ECAC Hockey playoffs for the second straight season and the sixth time in the last nine years ... The Engineers are 5-11 in postseason play since joining the league in 2006-07 ... RPI advanced to the league final once, in 2008-09, falling to Dartmouth ... The Engineers have lost seven straight playoff games, including two to Quinnipiac in the Quarterfinals last year.

THIS SEASON VS. CLARKSON: The Engineers went 0-2 against the Golden Knights this season, falling 8-3 in Potsdam in November, before dropping a 4-2 decision at the Houston Field House on January 27. Sophomore Makenna Thomas had a goal and an assist in the road defeat, while classmate Lovisa Selander had 37 saves in Troy.

VS. THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS IN THE PLAYOFFS: Clarkson swept a playoff series in Potsdam, 2-0, in 2012-13 ... The Golden Knights won Game 1, 3-2, in overtime, before closing out the series with a 5-2 victory the following day. Alexa Gruschow had a goal and an assist in the series for RPI.

RPI LEADERS: Rensselaer is led offensively by senior captain Laura Horwood, who has 18 points on five goals and 13 assists ... Junior Shayna Tomlinson (6 goals, 10 assists) has 16 points, while freshman Sabrina Repaci (8 goals, 7 assists) rounds out the top three scorers with 15.

ENGINEERS IN GOAL: Sophomore Lovisa Selander is 10-20-2 with a 2.73 goals against average and a .918 save percentage in 32 starts this season ... She recorded a school record 66 saves in Game 2 of the ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals last year at Quinnipiac ... RPI fell to the Bobcats, 2-1, in double-overtime after losing 3-2 in OT the previous night.

FOR THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS: Senior Carley Mercer (25 goals, 28 assists) leads Clarkson with 53 points, while classmate Genevieve Bannon (12 goals, 30 assists) has 42 ... Junior defenseman Savannah Harmon (8 goals, 22 assists) has 30 points.

CLARKSON GOALTENDING: Junior Shea Tiley is 21-4-5 with a 1.71 goals against average and a .924 save percentage in 30 starts ... She has recorded three shutouts.

WHAT'S NEXT?: The winner of the series advances to the ECAC Hockey Semifinals next weekend, hosted by the highest remaining seed.
