Softball Concludes Trip at 9-3

Engineers split on final day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball defeated Gordon College, 13-0, in five innings after falling to Stockton University, 6-3, on the team's final day in Florida. With the split, the Engineers are now 9-3 on the season.

Rensselaer struck first against the Ospreys on an infield single by freshman Maddie Provencher that brought home junior Christine White from third.

A two-run home run by senior Holly Arentowicz gave Stockton a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth.

The lead remained intact until the bottom of the seventh, when pinch runner Veronica DeStefano came home on a wild pitch, tying the game at 2-2.

Sophomore Carli Shaw plated the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth with a bunt, before freshman Alexandra Cosenzo launched a three-run homer for a 6-2 lead.

RPI got one run back in the bottom of the inning on an illegal pitch with junior Chelsea Elliott on third.

Junior Victoria Greco went 2 for 4 with a run, while classmate Devan Puhl was 2 for 3. Senior righty Stephanie Caudle allowed two runs on four hits in 5.0 innings and took a no-decision.

Stockton junior Hannah Bibeault earned the win in the circle, throwing the final 2.0 innings. She allowed two unearned runs on one hit.

The Engineers return to the diamond on Wednesday, when they host Mount Saint Mary for a doubleheader (3pm).
