TROY, N.Y. – Senior captain
Sophie Hager recorded a game-high four points to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's lacrosse team to a 7-5 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on Saturday afternoon at Renwyck Field. With the win, the Engineers improve to 3-4 overall (1-0 Liberty League), while the Tigers drop to 5-3 (0-1 Liberty League).
After falling behind 4-2 late in the first half, Hager (Northport, NY/Northport) led the Engineers a 4-0 scoring run that spanned the just minutes either side of the halftime whistle. She scored three times and assisted on the third to give RPI a 6-4 lead, just 1:12 into the second stanza.
Six minutes later, RIT junior Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) made it a one- goal game (6-5) with her 19th goal of the year.
Then, after nearly 17 minutes of scoreless play, Rensselaer sophomore
Abbey Salvon (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) finished off a feed from junior captain
Morgan Doyle (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran) to extend the lead back to two goals (7-5). The man-up tally was Salvon's seventh of the season.
Senior Sydney DaCosta (New Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang) had a point-blank shot attempt fly just over the bar in the final minute, but the Engineers backed up the play and ran out the final seconds for the win.
Hager finished with three goals and an assist on seven shots. She also collected one ground ball and had a caused turnover. Doyle had a goal and an assist, while sophomore
Erin Goodwin (Kensington, CT/Berlin) had a team-best four ground balls, three draw controls and two caused turnovers.
RIT was led offensively by junior Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), who had two goals, while Livecchi registered a goal and an assist. Three Tigers notched three ground balls, including freshman Alanna Fallone (Penfield, NY/Penfield), who also had three shots and a ground ball.

Aleena Milinski (Beaver Falls, PA/Blackhawk) made five saves, including three in second half. RIT's Rebekah Snitkoff (Fairafield, CT/Fairfield Warde) also had five stops – all coming in the opening 30 minutes.
The Engineers are back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they host the University of Rochester at Renwyck Field (2pm). RIT visits Skidmore College tomorrow (2pm).
