Breanainn McNeally scored four goals and
David Gibbs stopped 14 shots to lead the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's lacrosse team to an 11-9 victory over Williams College in a non-league contest. With the win, the Engineers improve to 10-3 with five straight wins. They have won 9 of their last 10 games. The Ephs drop to 7-6.
Creating the first turnover of the game, the Ephs took control of the first two minutes of the first quarter on a goal from freshman John Hinks. The Engineers soon answered with a goal by senior captain
Chaz Bell. With 6:28 left in the quarter, RPI got themselves another goal, this one from leading scorer
Breanainn McNeally after a turnover by the Ephs. McNeally scored again with three minutes left in the first quarter, but the Ephs fired back in less than 20 seconds with a goal from freshman Kevin Stump. After a great dodge, Brendan Hoffman scored with 30 seconds left to tie the game, 3-3.
The Engineers regained the lead off the second quarter faceoff on a goal

Oliver Kaija. McNeally made it 5-3 and
Owen Putman put the Engineers ahead by three goals, 6-3, early in the frame. Williams ended RPI's goal streak at 8:14 by a tally from Duncan Cummings and Hoffman soon scored an unassisted goal for the Ephs for a 6-5 deficit.
Williams came out of halftime with a bang, netting the first goal of the second half by Stump, tying the score for a second time, 6-6. After two penalties against Williams, RPI scored back-to-back goals - McNeally and Putman - but Stump earned his third of the game at 7:23 with an assist from Michael Fahey. RPI was quick to come back with an unassisted goal from
Matthew Gilman. Fahey scored within the last minute of the quarter to shorten the Engineers' lead to one goal, 9-8.
The Engineers came out with a strong start to the final quarter, which led to a goal by
JT Kelly with an assist to Lukas. In less than a minute, Gilman found the goal again for a three-goal lead. The fourth quarter streak was broken by senior defenseman Riley Hoffman with a clear and score but for the next 10 minuets, there were no goals by either team due to stellar defense by the two teams.
The Engineers were led by McNeally who had four goals and an assist, followed by Gillman and Putman, who had two goals apiece. The Ephs were led by Stump with three goals followed by Hoffman with two. Gibbs finished with at least three saves in every quarter for his 14. George Peele made 11 stops for Williams.
The Ephs return to action on Saturday on Farley-Lamb Field for a matchup at 1pm against NESCAC rival Amherst. RPI next plays on Saturday at St. Lawrence at 12pm.
