TROY, N.Y. - Three players found the scoresheet for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's soccer team in its 3-0 shutout victory over Bard College on Saturday at East Campus Stadium. With the win, the Engineers improve to 4-2-1 (1-0 Liberty League), while the Raptors drop to 5-2 (0-1 Liberty League).
Senior Stephanie May (Windham, NH/Central Catholic) got the hosts on the board early, when she volleyed in her first goal of the year. Classmate
Bethany Hanson (Fullerton, CA/Sunny Hills) delivered the long throw-in from the left that bounced twice before May got her right foot on it. The opening tally came in just the third minute.
Rensselaer made it 2-0 in the 17th minute on sophomore
Emily Kaplan's (Smithtown, NY/Hauppauge) first of the season. Senior
Dali Alarian (Folsom, CA/Vista del Lago) fit a long through ball into the path of Kaplan, who touched it past Bard sophomore goalkeeper Tessa Greenhalgh (Albany, NH/Kennett), who was racing off of her line.
The Engineers took their two-goal advantage into halftime, along with a 10-2 edge in shots and a 2-0 corner kick advantage.
Senior
Hannah Bordogna (Andover, MA/Brooks School) capped the scoring in the 72nd minute, netting an unassisted goal for a 3-0 lead.
RPI finished with 22 shots to the Raptors' four. Sophomore
Joey Lyons (Harwood, MD/Southern) worked the opening 45 minutes, saving two. Senior
Tori Riopelle (Ashburn, VA/Briar Woods) was not forced into action in the second half. Greenhalgh had seven stops for Bard.
The Engineers are back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they host St. Lawrence at East Campus Stadium (1pm). Bard hosts Vassar on Wednesday (7pm).
