Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman Tatum Skaggs scored a pair of goals to lead the Ohio State University women's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink, in the season opener for both teams.
Skaggs (Hartland, WI/Chicago Mission) finished on a 2-on-1 break at 11:26 of the first to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Classmate Emma Maltais (Burlington, ON/Oakville Hornets) and junior Lauren Boyle (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie) picked up the assists.
Junior Maddy Field (Oakville, ON/Oakville Jr. Hornets) then doubled the OSU advantage at 1:34 of the second, scoring off a feed from Grace Zarzecki (Chicago, IL/Harvard) and senior Dani Sadek (Lakeville, MN/Lakeville North).
Zarzecki and Skaggs then added insurance goals at 57 second and 3:39 of the third to open up a 4-0 lead.
Rensselaer senior blueliner
Whitney Renn (Troy, MI/Little Caesars) put home a rebound at 10:32 of the frame to make it a 4-1 game. Classmate
Shayna Tomlinson (Gilford, NH/Assabet Valley) and sophomore
Blake Orosz (Chase Mills, NY/Nepean Wildcats) earned the helpers on RPI's first tally of the new season.
Junior goaltender
Lovisa Selander (Sollentuna, Sweden/SDE Riksserien) finished with 36 saves, while Ohio State junior Kassidy Sauve (Whitby, ON/Whitby Wolves) had 25 stops at the other end of the ice.
The two teams are back in action tomorrow afternoon for game two of the weekend series. Puck drop is schedule for 3:07pm.
