Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey | | Colleen Dempsey, Communications Assistant

Women's Hockey Falls in Overtime at No. 3 Clarkson, 3-2

POTSDAM, N.Y. – Jaimie Grigsby scored the game-tying goal with less than two minutes left in regulation with Lovisa Selander coming up with 41 saves, but the Engineers' effort fell just short as Rensselaer dropped a 3-2 overtime conference game at #3 Clarkson Friday night.

RPI (7-11-5, 4-5-2 ECACH), who was 1-0-5 going into the contest, dropped its first overtime loss of the season with Clarkson registering their first OT win after going 0-1-1 with extra time on the clock.

Clarkson opened the scoring early in the first period on an unassisted Michaela Pejzlova goal.

Five minutes into the second period, Grigsby won a faceoff in the Golden Knight zone that put the puck on Shayna Tomlinson's stick. The senior then found Blake Orosz who scored her fourth goal of the season to tie the game 1-1. The draw didn't last long as Elizabeth Giguere, the leading scorer for the ECACH, found the back of the net off assists from Pejzlova and Loren Gabel.

Down 2-1, RPI took Selander out of the net for an extra skater to try to tie the game. There was a scrum in front of the net with 1:09 left in regulation, and Grigsby came up with the game and the second tying goal of the game. The junior was assisted by Tomlinson and Sabrina Repaci.

Clarkson won the first two faceoffs to start overtime and scored 19 seconds into the extra session when Gabel scored her 16th goal of the season, finishing off a passing combination from Giguere and Ella Shelton for the 3-2 win.

Of the 49 goals the Engineers have conceded, nine have been in either the first or last two minutes of a period.

Shea Tiley (18-3-1) was credited with the win on 24 saves while Selander (7-11-4) picked up the loss on an outstanding 41 save effort, her second highest total of the season.

With tonight's loss, the Engineers are 3-6 in one goal games.

Tonight was the third time this season RPI has faced a ranked team. The last time the Engineers upset a top-10 team was on November 7, 2015 at Houston Field House in a 2-1 win over #4 Clarkson.

Rensselaer travels to St. Lawrence (11-7-3, 7-3-1 ECACH) tomorrow afternoon for their second ECACH game of the weekend. The Saints are coming off a 4-0 win over Union (6-14-3, 4-7-0) on their home ice.

The last time Rensselaer took two points in the North Country series was in November 2015 with the Engineers taking one point in February 2016 with a 1-1 tie at St. Lawrence.

The puck is set to drop at Appleton Arena at 3pm.
