TROY, N.Y. - Junior
Jessica Kugelman won off of both diving boards and three others each had individual victories, but the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming & diving team dropped its first meet of the season, 157.5-141.5, to Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on Robison Pool.
Kugelman earned 234.70 points to win from 1-meter and 242.90 to capture the 3-meter competition. She had a 53.9 point win in the former and a 58.65 point victory in the latter. RIT's Jessa Kaups finished second in both events.
Rensselaer's 200 medley relay team of
Amanda Wang,
Caitlyn Gardiner,
Megan Beaulieu and
Kaitlin Joyce began the meet with a nearly two second victory, finishing in 1:51.55. Wang went on to win the 100 backstroke (59.14) and finish second in the 100 butterfly (1:01.05). She also swam on the second place 400 free relay team (3:45.58).
Gardiner was victorious in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.87 and freshman
Kat Lopez won the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.28. A freshman, Lopez also finished second in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.49) as well as the 200 individual medley (2:16.99).
The Engineers return to competition on October 27 in a dual meet at Ithaca College (2pm).
