ITHACA, N.Y. - Freshman Kat Lopez won three individual events and two of her teammates had a pair of wins to help the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's swimming & diving team edge Ithaca College, 153-147, in a dual meet. RPI's men's team had four individuals with multiple wins on its way to beating the Bombers, 204-96. The Engineers men are now 2-0, while the women improve to 1-1.

Lopez was first to touch the wall in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley, winning by one second, three seconds and two seconds, respectively. In each event, a teammate finished in second place to propel Rensselaer to its six-point victory.

Senior Amanda Wang won in both the 100 backstroke in 58.98 - the only swimmer to better 1:00 - and 200 backstroke. Sophomore Kaitlyn Joyce won the 50 free and 100 free, while also competing on the first place 200 medley relay team, along with Wang and two others.

The men's 200 medley team, which featured Noah Pan, Charly Blazy, Graham Zola and John Alberta, also won, finishing more than two seconds in front of the second place team. Pan went on to win in the 100 backstroke and the 200 back, while Zola captured the 200 free. Alberta won the 100 free and was the lead in the victorious 400 free relay. Trevor Maxfield, who won the 1000 free and 500 free, Pan and Zola also contributed to the final relay victory.

A pair of freshmen - Steven Yu and Alex Aung - also had multiple individual victories, winning the 200 breaststroke and 200 individual and 200 and 100 fly, respectively.

Rensselaer's next action is November 10 when it travels to Poughkeepsie to face Vassar College in a dual meet.
