TROY, N.Y. - Senior Molly Freeman had a goal and an assist to lead the No. 1-ranked Middlebury College field hockey team to a 4-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a non-league game at Harkness Field. The defending champion Panthers keep their perfect record intact at 11-0, while the Engineers drop to 2-9.

Freeman, a forward, set up the first goal of the game when she received a long pass from Isabel Chandler and carried the ball down the right side and into the circle, drawing Rensselaer goalkeeper Rachel Kaufman out of the net. Freeman then slid a pass across to Grace Jennings, who potted her ninth of the season in the ninth minute of play.

The Panthers doubled their lead just over two minutes later when Freeman buried a rebound of an Erin Nicholas shot from close range. It became a 3-0 game in the 18th minute when Marissa Baker scored over Kaufman and into the cage. Baker gained possession off a Taylor Clink defensive save on a shot from Nicholas.

Middlebury's final goal came in the second half when Nicholas sent a pass to the lower left corner of the goal mouth, which junior Alison Denby finished for her first goal of the season. It came in the 43rd minute.

The Panthers got a save from Megan Collins in the win, their 27th straight over the past two seasons. They held a 35-3 edge in shots, aided by 16 penalty corners.

Kaufman finished with 14 saves for RPI, including 12 in the first half. Clink's defensive save was her team-leading third of the campaign.

Rensselaer returns to Liberty League play on Friday when it travels to Union College (4pm). Middlebury plays at Trinity College in a NESCAC contests on Saturday at 11am.
