POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Kaitlyn Joyce, Alex Aung and
Jessica Kugelman each registered multiple individual victories and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's and men's swimming & diving teams both won dual meets at Vassar College, defeating the Brewers, 150-140 and 186-99, respectively. RPI's women are now 2-1 in dual meets, while the men remain perfect at 3-0.
Joyce, a sophomore, captured the 50 free in a time of 25.30 and then won the 100 freestyle in 55.69. She and Kugelman, who won off the 1-meter (245.30) and 3-meter (259.80) diving boards, were two of four victors for the Engineers. Senior
Amanda Wang won the 100 backstroke (58.90) and freshman
Kat Lopez was first in the 200 breaststroke (2:30.53).
Aung, also a freshman, was first in the 200 butterfly (1:57.38) and the 100 fly (51.99), both of which followed his first place performance in the 200 medley relay (1:38.36). Junior Graham Zola swam the anchor leg in the relay and then finished first in the 50 freestyle (21.97).
Six other swimmers also won, while a pair of divers finished first. Matt Dineen won from 1-meter (244.05) and Jesse Rotering captured the 3-meter competition (235.70).
Both of Rensselaer's teams are back in the pool on Sunday when they compete against The College of Saint Rose at 1pm in Troy.
