TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) swimming & diving teams combined to win 21 of the 26 events as the Engineers took down The College of Saint Rose in a pair of dual meets. RPI's women won 143-84 to improve to 3-1, while the men moved to 4-0 with a 144-77 victory.
Sophomore
Emily Mayoras won two individual events and was part of a victorious relay, freshman
Kat Lopez swam on two winning relay teams and won an individual event and junior
Jessica Kugelman won from both diving boards, earning NCAA Regional qualification in the process. Juniors Graham Zola and Trevor Maxfield both won a pair of individual swims and a relay for the men.
Zola anchored the 200 medley relay team that opened the meet with a time of 1:37.38. He went on to capture both the 50 free (21.71) and 100 free (47.55). Also a freestyle competitor, Maxfield was first to touch the wall in the 200 (1:48.57) as well as the 500 (4:54.44). He helped close the meet by taking the lead swim on the 200 free relay that finished first (1:29.29).
Mayoras and Lopez helped the women's 200 free relay to victory with a time of 1:44.03. Lopez also swam on the 200 medley relay team that won in 1:52.91 to kick off the day. Individually, Mayoras was first in both the 50 (25.61) and 100 (55.68) freestyle events.Â
Kugelman, who won from both boards in a dual meet win at Vassar College on Saturday, registered 268.55 points from the 1-meter diving board and 285.40 points from 3-meters. She finished more than 81 points in front of the runner-up in both events.Â
The Engineers are idle until November 30 when they will compete in the three-day MIT Winter Invtational.
