UTICA, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's track & field team had 12 top 3 finishes, including a victory by freshman
Maya Verma in the high jump, and the Engineers finished second of eight teams at the Utica College Winter Classic. RPI had 132.50 points but narrowly lost to the host Pioneers, who compiled 136 points. The University of Rochester was third with 129 points.
Verma led an Engineers foursome that finished atop the high jump. She won with a height of 1.68, while
Lauren Parker also reached 1.68.
Jillian Salkind was third at 1.62 and
Jacy Scharlow was fourth at 1.62 meters. Salkind also competed in the long jump, finishing third.
Freshman
Ileana Sirois was second in the triple jump with a distance of 10.88 and she also had a third place finish in the 60 Hurdles (9.64).
Dainara Veeder was fourth in the 60H.
In the 60-meter dash,
Sarah Dalakos was the runner-up (8.06) and
Madison Perez came in second in the 800-meters (2.26.85). Perez also ran the anchor on the third place 4x400 relay team that also included
Jordan Porter,
Alyssa Richtarek and
Katie Clark. They finished in 4:16.74.
Rensselaer had the third and fourth place finishers in the 3000-meters in
Michelle Murray and
Hailey Miller, while
Willa Spaar was third in the 400.
Maurin O'Connor was one of the five second place finishers for the Engineers as she was the runner-up in the pole vault (3.20).
