HARTFORD, Conn. – The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) women's track & field team produced a strong collection of podium finishes and scoring performances at today's Trinity College Invitational.
RPI found points on the track early in the 100 meters as
Alyssa Fici placed seventh with a time of 12.75 seconds. Fici then added another scoring effort in the 200, finishing sixth in 25.98 to give the Engineers top-eight results in both sprint events. In the middle-distance races, RPI delivered one of its top performances of the day in the 800 meters, where
Erin vonHousen earned a runner-up finish in 2:17.06, while
Laura Hoag added another top-eight effort by placing seventh in 2:19.79.
The Engineers placed two athletes inside the top eight of the 5000 meters, led by
Alyse Karanian in fifth with a time of 19:22.78, and
Elsie Corbett in eighth at 19:38.82, continuing RPI's depth in the longer races. RPI also scored heavily in the hurdles, paced by
Alice Brambati, who posted a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.33.
Emma McGuinn followed with another scoring run in fourth, crossing in 14.72 to give the Engineers two top-four efforts in the event.
The Engineers were just as sharp in the field events, beginning in the throwing circle where
Leanna Wells captured the shot put title with a winning throw of 12.99 meters, while
Kylie Allen added an eighth-place finish at 10.96 meters. RPI stacked four scorers in the discus, led by
Katie Lynch in second with a mark of 37.36 meters, followed by
Grace Richard in third at 35.64 meters, Allen in fifth with 33.94 meters, and
Grace Garman rounding out the top eight in eighth at 30.62 meters. RPI also picked up points in the javelin, where
Emma Muir finished third with a throw of 34.54 meters, and Garman followed in fourth at 31.75 meters.
In the jumps,
Ainsley Rausch delivered a key scoring performance by placing second in the pole vault with a clearance of 2.85 meters, and Brambati closed out a standout day with an event victory in the triple jump, winning with a mark of 11.75 meters (0.5).
RPI capped the meet with another event win in the hammer throw, as
Katie Lynch claimed first with a throw of 48.31 meters, and Richard added a scoring finish in sixth at 40.59 meters.
