CLERMONT, Fla. - The Engineers won their third and fourth straight games with a 3-2 win over Stockton and an 8-2 win over UMass-Boston on Tuesday evening.Stockton (5-2) jumped to an early lead in the top of the first when Alexandra Cosenzo hit a two out, homer over the centerfield fence.
RPI (6-2) garnered their first hit of the game in the bottom of the second with a
Victoria Greco single to centerfield. With two outs and Greco on first, the Ospreys' Â Marissa Semarao struck out her second batter of the contest to end the inning.
With Stockton still up 1-0,
Steph Cavallaro led off the top of the with a single to left field. With runners on third and second and one out on the board, Cavallaro tied the game off a
Cam Caswell single through the left side. The Engineers then took their first lead of the game when
Veronica DeStefano scored on a fielding error followed by a Caswell run off an
Allie Hunt RBI to go up 3-1.
After RPI's
Sarah Harms held the Ospreys to four straight scoreless innings, Meg Mursello scored on a two out single up the middle by Ashley Lobell to knock Rensselaer's lead to one run, but the Engineers held on for their first win of the day.
Harms was credited with the complete game win with five strikeouts while Stockton's Semeraro (2-2) picked up the loss with five strikeouts and one earned run.
In the second win of the day with UMass-Boston (2-4),the Beacons jumped to an early lead when Taylor Pawll crossed home in the bottom of the give UMass-Boston a 1-0 lead. The Beacons added another run in the bottom of the third when Roxanne Vent score on a second unearned run to put UMass-Boston up 2-0.
After registering three hits in the first three innings,
Maddie Provencher led off with a singled to right center. Greco then bunted down the left field line for a single to place runners on second and third. After a groundout placed runners on third and second, Provencher scored RPI's first run on Cavallaro single to left field. The Engineers then brought Greco across the plate on an error to tie the game 2-2. Rensselaer took their first lead of the game when Cavallaro scored off a DeStefano single down the right field line. A fourth RPI run crossed the plate before the end of the inning when
Rebecca Kienz scored off a Caswell RBI to make the score 4-2 in favor of the Engineers.
In the top of the fifth, Hunt scored RPI's fifth run off a
Kacie Herity single to third base. Rensselaer added to their lead two innings later when Cavallaro doubled to right field to score Greco and Herity. With the score at 7-2, the Engineers added their last run when Cavallaro scored off an effort to give Rensselaer its sixth win in five days.
Harms (6-1) picked up her second win of the day with two strikeouts while UMass-Boston's Jess Greenspan (1-2) took her second loss of the year with a three strikeout effort.
Rensselaer takes on Bethel (11:30am) and Wesleyan (4:30pm) tomorrow at Hancock Park in Clermont, Fla.
