ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Allie Claroni set up one goal and scored two others down the stretch as visiting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) earned a 9-7 women's lacrosse victory over the University of Rochester at Edwin Fauver Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Claroni led all scorers with two goals and two assists. Morgan Doyle scored three goals for RPI, which also got two from Maddy Aslansan. Shyla Niemann and Michelle Bolger scored one apiece. Erin Goodwin, Lauren Guiry, Niemann and Becca DeRosa each had one assist.

Maggie McKenna scored three goals for Rochester. Jamison Seabury scored two, while Brigid Regan and Mary Panepento had one apiece. Kendra Jones had one assist.

In goal, Aleena Milinski made eight saves and allowed seven goals in 60 minutes for the win. Conley Ernst made 10 saves for Rochester and allowed nine goals in 60 minutes.

RPI won for the third time in its last four games. The Engineers are 4-2-1 overall, 2-1 in the Liberty League. Rochester is 0-5, 0-2 in the Liberty League.

The score was tied six times in the first 41 minutes. Doyle provided the last tie, 6-6, when she spun right, then left to score from close range at the left post with 18:50 to play.

Four minutes later, Aslansan gave RPI its second lead of the day, 7-6, when she scored from Claroni's pass in a crowded area with 14:31 left. Claroni made it 8-6 with less than 12 minutes left, coming from behind a screen to shoot top right.

Seabury pulled Rochester within a goal 62 seconds later. She ran left to right in the critical scoring area and fired a shot just out of Milinski's reach and under the crossbar.

The Yellowjackets pressed for an equalizer but RPI was able to fend off the attacks. RPI took the ball away deep in its own end, found Claroni running free. She raced more than 50 yards with the ball and scored the clincher with 2:51 left.

Four players scored for Rochester in the first half: McKenna, Seabury, Regan, and Panepento. It was 4-4 at intermission. McKenna's second goal, 36 seconds into the second half, put Rochester ahead, 5-4. Aslansan tied it from Goodwin 10 minutes into the half. McKenna answered one minute later on a drive from right wing (6-5, UR, 19:22 left). Doyle scored shortly thereafter to tie it at 6-6 and that started the winning surge.

Individually, Milinski (5) and Ernst (4) were the ground ball leaders. Nora Molino won three draws for RPI. Abbey Salvon and Goodwin won two each. Madeline Mullholand won seven draws for Rochester.
