Skidmore Tops Women's Lax, 9-7

Engineers comeback effort falls short in Saratoga Springs

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Natalie LaBeau recorded a game-high four points to lead the Skidmore College women's lacrosse team to a 9-7 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) on Tuesday night at Wachenheim Field. With the win, the Thoroughbreds improve to 7-4 overall (3-2 Liberty League), while the Engineers drop to 5-3-1 (3-2 Liberty League).

LaBeau opened the scoring exactly one minute into the game, as the hosts netted three of the game's first four goals. RPI senior Abbey Salvon broke up the run with the first of her two on the day.

Junior Maddy Aslansan and senior Allie Claroni brought RPI within 4-3 with goals at 22 minutes and 27:15, but Anna Boogaerts took an Emily Hirsh feed and buried Skidmore's fifth goal for a 5-3 lead at the break.

The Thoroughbreds once again had a strong start to the second half, scoring the first three goals. LaBeau once again got things started with her second of the night, followed by tallies from Boogaerts and Hirsh, for an 8-3 advantage.

Rensselaer then mounted a comeback, netting three straight goals of their own over a four and a half minute stretch. Salvon was followed by freshman Nora Molino, before junior Erin Goodwin tallied man-up to draw within 8-6.

Following a 10 minute drought on both sides, LaBeau gave the hosts some breathing room with 7:00 remaining. RPI senior Morgan Doyle finished off a pass from Goodwin to cap the scoring with 3:45 left.

Caroline Kenlon finished with 10 saves to earn the win in net, while Aleen Milinski turned away 11 at the other end of the field.

RPI is back in action next Wednesday, when it hosts Union (7pm). Skidmore travels to Union on Saturday (2pm).
