ENGINEERS CUP: Rensselaer opens the 2018 by hosting the second Engineers Cup at East Campus Stadium on Friday and Saturday. RPI takes on Western Connecticut State (4pm), before Buffalo State takes on Farmingdale State (6:30pm). Action concludes on Saturday morning with the Bengals drawing West Conn for an 11am start, with the Engineers and Rams to follow (1:30pm).
FOR RPI: The Engineers two of their top three point scorers from 2017, including senior
Emily Dunn (3 goals, 1 1 assist) and junior
Emily Kaplan (2 goals, 3 assists), who had seven points apiece. Also back are sophomore junior
Alexis Castrellon (2 goals, 1 assist) and sophomore
Olenka Soko (2 goals).
BETWEEN THE STICKS: Junior
Joey Lyons, the 2016 Liberty League Rookie of the Year, is back for her third season after going 6-7-1 with a 1.30 goals against average and an. 760 save percentage a year ago. Newcomer
Alex Benfatti will suite up as Rensselaer's second goalkeeper.
THIRD SEASON: Head coach
Bre Nasypany-Cicero returns to the bench for her third season with the Engineers. She has compiled a 22-13-3 overall record at Rensselaer, including a 9-7-2 mark in Liberty League play.
THE INAUGURAL ENGINEERS CUP: RPI fell to Western Connecticut State, 2-0, to open the year, before topping Farmingdale State, 1-0. Buffalo State drew with the Rams, 1-1, on day one, before falling to the Colonials, 3-0.
