COLONIE, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's cross country team had the top 10 finishers and the women had four of the top five as the Engineers swept The College of Saint Rose in a dual meet at The Crossings at Colonie. The meets were the first of the season for the teams.
RPI's men, which is No. 8 in Division III, had its top 10 finishers cross the line within 1:08 of one another. Seniors Grant O'Connor and Sean O'Connor finished the 8k course simultaneously in 26:06 with the next four - Jake Davis, Joe Domanico, Jake Kloman and Noah Falasco - all registering 26:41. The Engineers who finished Nos. 7-10 were within three seconds of one another.
Senior
Maddie Sturm led the women's team, crossing the 6k finish line in 20:03. Packed right behind were
Autumn Grim (20:04),
Maggie Bond (20:05) and
Andrea Squeri (20:06).
Karina Bolton (20:21) also scored for Rensselaer, which is ranked 12th nationally.
RPI outscored the Golden Knights, 21-61, in the women's meet, which was won by Christine Myers (18:42) and featured 26 competitors. The men had a 15-108 edge. There were 39 runners in that race.
The Engineers return to The Crossings next Saturday morning when they compete in a multi-divisional meet hosted by Siena College. The men start at 9:45am and the women at 10:30am.
