MEET TIME (Jan. 25, 2019): The Engineers host a dual meet for the third time this season as the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore travel down the Northway from Saratoga Springs.
TO THIS POINT: Rensselaer's men's team is 5-0 in dual meets in 2018-19, while the women are 4-1 ... Skidmore's women are 3-3 and the men are 4-2.
NO RPI KUMPF: Both RPI and the Thoroughbreds were scheduled to swim in Rensselaer's invitational last Saturday, but the meet was canceled due to inclement weather and subsequent travel restrictions ... The meet is not expected to be re-scheduled.Â
COMMON OPPONENTS: Both the Engineers and the Thoroughbreds have had head-to-head meets with Vassar and Union ... RPI swept both meets, while Skidmore fell in both.
LAST SEASON: The Engineers saw 13 different men win individual events in a 189-92 win at Skidmore in 2017-18 ... RPI's women had eight individuals earn victories with four collecting multiple wins in a 197-95 triumph in Saratoga Springs.
LAST TIME OUT: Last Friday night, the Engineers returned to competition for the first time since December 2 and neither team exhibited any effects of the long break as they defeated Union 221-77 (men) and 172-126, respectively.
HONORED: Rensselaer's
Jessica Kugelman and Alex Aung were recognized by the Liberty League following their performances at Union ... Kugelman, a junior who won from both boards, was named the Women's Diver of the Week ... Aung, a freshman who won three of the four events in which he swam, was selected as the Men's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week ... It is the third time this season that both have been honored with weekly awards by the conference.
WEEKLY HONOR ROLL: Tabbed with Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll recognition following last week's meet in Schenectady were senior John Alberta (3 first place finishes), sophomore
Kaitlin Joyce (4 first place finishes) and freshman
Megan Beaulieu (3 first place finishes).
CSCAA SCHOLAR TEAMS: Both of RPI's swimming & diving teams earned College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America recognition for the fall 2018 semester ... It is the eighth straight semester both squads have been honored.
ACADEMIC SUCCESS: Rensselaer's women registered a 3.12 GPA with 13 of 24 individuals earning at least a 3.0 in the fall of 2018 ... Eight individuals had 3.5 or higher ... RPI's men, who had 19 of 27 with a 3.0 or better, including 10 at 3.5+ with three 4.0s, finished the fall with a 3.32.
AMONG TOP: The Engineers' men's team GPA was the second highest among the men's sports in the department ... Only cross country (3.40) had a higher term GPA ... Men's lacrosse was third (3.27).
