Penn State Tops Women's Hockey, 2-0

Ena Nystrøm stops 29, but Engineers fall in series opener

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State University women's hockey team scored goals in the first and third periods en route to posting a 2-0 shutout of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Friday afternoon at Pegula Arena. With the win, the Nittany Lions improve to 1-2-2 overall, while the Engineers drop to 0-5-0.

Natalie Heising opened the scoring at 16:24 of the first, stealing the puck deep in RPI territory. Her second goal of the season came unassisted and stood as the game-winner.

Following a scoreless second frame in which Penn State outshot the Engineers 13-2, Amanda McLeod made added an insurance goal at 7:01 of the third. Jessica Adofsson and Heising collected the assists on McLeod's first of the year.

Nittany Lions goaltender Chantal Burke (1-2-1) made nine saves to pickup the shutout, while Ena Nystrøm made 29 saves for the Engineers.

Both teams are back in action tomorrow afternoon for the series finale. Puck drop is scheduled for 1pm.
