Women's Hockey Falls at Penn State, 3-0

Izzy Heminger scores a pair to lead Nittany Lions to series sweep

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Izzy Heminger scored two goals, including the game-winner to lead the Penn State University women's hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Intitute (RPI), on Saturday afternoon at Pegula Arena. With the win, the Nittany Lions improve to 2-2-2, while the Engineers drop to 0-6-0.

Heminger opened the scoring at 12:46 of the first period, taking a feed from Katie McMillan and picking out the top right corner of the net. Natalie Heising added the secondary assist on the play. 

Penn State doubled its advantage at 4:24 of the second, capitalizing on a power play opportunity. McMillan started the play on the left wing, before getting a return feed from Rachel Weiss at the side of the cage for the close range finish. Rene Gangarosa also earned a helper on McMillan's second of the year.

The Nittany Lions capped th scoring at 8:35 of the second, when Heminger ripped a shot from the point off the crossbar and in. Penn State's second man advantage tally came with a lone assist to Mallory Uihein.

Chantal Burke (2-2-1) made 15 saves for her second straight shutout, while Ena Nystrøm had a career-high 50 stops at the other end of the ice.

Rensselaer is back in action on October 27, when they visit Holy Cross (1:05pm). Penn State travels to Providence next Friday (6pm).
