Field Hockey Defeated by Dutchwomen, 2-1

TROY, N.Y. - Junior Katie Talacci had a goal and an assist to lead the Union College field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a Liberty League matchup at Harkness Field.

A forward, Talacci opened the scoring 7:25 into the second quarter when she knocked the ball in through traffic from close range at the right of the cage. Senior Charlotte Leyland, who had a shot in the sequence, had the assist on the goal, Talacci's fourth of the season.

Cristina Boudreau made it 2-0 just under five minutes later when she finished a feed from Talacci, who passed the ball to her at the middle of the goal. The marker was the first for the sophomore.

Rensselaer freshman Brianna Duba pulled RPI to within 2-1 when she carried the ball into the circle and scored on a reverse hit from just inside the arc. It was her first career goal.

RPI held the lead in both shots (17-11) and penalty corners (13-4), while RPI's Jen Richardson and Union's Mary Beth Rudolf both had two saves. Jill Bove added a defensive save for the visitors while the game was scoreless in the first quarter.

The Engineers (0-12; 0-3 Liberty League) conclude their three-game home stretch with a contest against the University of Rochester on Friday (4pm). The Dutchwomen are also back in action on Friday at St. Lawrence University (4pm). Both are conference games.
