WATERFORD, Conn. - Junior Jake Davis came in eighth place and four of his teammates were in the top 45 as the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) men's cross country team finished third in the 27-school Connecticut College Cross Country Invitational at Harkness Park. RPI's women also earned a top 5 finish, placing fifth of 28 behind five runners in the top 60.
Davis ran the 8K course at a pace of 5:00.1 to cross the finish line in 24:52.0, which was only two seconds from seventh place. He was followed on the team by senior Noah Falasco, who was 24th overall with a time of 25:17.8 (5:05.3 pace). He was within a second of a top 20 finish.Â
Johnny Capobianco was third on RPI and 31st overall with a finish of 25:23.0 with classmates Jake Kloman (25:31.0) and Joe Domanico (25:31.7) in 44th and 46th, respectively.Â
Senior
Autumn Grim paced Rensselaer's women with a 6K time of 22:00.6 (5:54.2 per mile), which put her in 17th overall. She was less than two seconds from 15th.
Maggie Bond, also a senior, was 20 spots behind at 22:30.9 and
Andrea Squeri, another senior, was 43rd overall with a time of 22:35.4.
Laura Klang was 51st (22:42.6) and Izzy Caplazi was 56th (22:50.7).
Harley Pannan, a sophomore at Ithaca College was first in the race, which had 365 competitors, with a time of 20:52.2. She was 15 seconds in front of MIT's Izzi Gengaro, who finished in 21:07.0. No. 7 MIT won the team title with a score of 75, which was 28 points better than second place Williams, the No. 5 team in the nation which had 103 points. No. 4 Tufts was third (121), No. 12 Carleton was fourth (126) and No. 14 RPI was fifth (204).
No. 2 Williams won the men's meet with 47 points, finishing ahead of No. 12 MIT (96), No. 14 RPI (149), Colby (161) and No. 20 Middlebury (190). Aidan Ryan, a junior for the Ephs, won the individual title with a time of 23:56.0, a pace of 4:48.9.Â
