GENEVA, N.Y. - William Smith College scored twice in just over a minute in the fourth quarter to double its lead and the Herons defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) 4-1 in a Liberty League contest at McCooey Field.
Four different student-athletes scored for William Smith, including Lauren Jackson at 2:39 and Emma Schafer at 3:44 of final frame. Sophie Craig finished with a goal and an assist, while two goalkeepers combined for four saves. Bennett Tierney added a defensive save for the Herons, who held a 17-11 advantage in shots.
RPI, which had one more penalty corner than the Herons (8-7), got seven saves from freshman
Jen Richardson and a goal from
Brianna Duba, also a freshman. Duba notched her second of the season on a shot from the right sideline with 3:50 to play in regulation.
