ITHACA, N.Y. - Ithaca College's Brianna Lennon scored the game-winning goal in overtime to help the Bombers to a 4-3 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in a Liberty League field hockey contest at Higgins Stadium.
Lennon, a freshman, scored her first career goal 1:10 into the extra period when she took a pass from Kendall Keil and shot from the left side of the arc. The tally, which came with Ithaca up a player due to a yellow card, completed a comeback for Ithaca, which tied the game at 3-3 with 2:58 left in regulation when sophomore Jacqueline Mirabile tipped in a shot from a penalty corner.
The Bombers gained a 1-0 lead early in the first quarter when Grace Ziehnert scored on a rebound. RPI came back with the next two goals, the first from freshman
Mikayla Berman off a rebound late in the frame and Stakutis finishing a
Lauren Roy cross for the lead 5:40 into the second quarter.
After Ithaca tied the score at 2-2, sophomore
Jessie House put the Engineers in front in the third quarter with her first goal of the season.
RPI got five saves from freshman
Jen Richardson, including two in overtime, while Savanna Lenker stopping four shots for the Bombers, who had a 10-7 edge in penalty corners.
