Men's Hockey Hosts No. 10 Harvard Friday

Engineers begin weekend with Crimson (7pm), before traveling to Canisius on Saturday (7:35pm)

HOME AND AWAY
Rensselaer hosts No. 10 Harvard in an ECAC Hockey contest on Friday night (7pm), before traveling to Buffalo to face Canisius in non-league action on Saturday (7:35pm).

ONE POINT WEEKEND
The Engineers settled for a single point on their road trip to Princeton and Quinnipiac last weekend, tying the Tigers, 2-2, before falling to the Bobcats, 3-1, on Saturday night ... Simon Kjellberg and Ture Linden tallied for RPI against Princeton, while Owen Savory made 29 saves ... Will Reilly then scored first against the Bobcats, but three straight first period goals from the hosts proved to be the difference in the contest ... Linden Marshall worked the final two periods against Quinnipiac, stopping all shots he faced.

RPI LEADERS
Rensselaer seniors Will Reilly (5 goals, 5 assists) paces the team with 10 points in 10 games, while classmates Patrick Polino (4 goals, 4 assists) and Chase Zieky (4 goals, 4 assists) have eight points apiece ... Fellow senior Jake Marrello (3 goals, 3 assists) is joined by sophomore Ottoville Leppanen (1 goal, 5 assists) with six points each.

GOALTENDING
Sophomore Owen Savory (3-4-1) has a 2.58 goals against average and a .914 save percentage in eight starts, while junior Linden Marshall (1-1) has a 3.00 goals against average and a .901 save percentage in three games (2 starts).

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Harvard, which moved up to No. 10 in this week's USCHO.com poll is led offensively by sophomore Casey Dornbach (2 goals, 7 assists) with nine points ... Freshmen Nick Abruzzese (2 goals, 6 assists) and John Fabrinacci (4 goals, 3 assists) round out the top three with eight and seven points, respectively.

HARVARD GOALTENDING
Senior Cameron Gornet (2-0-0) has a 2.00 goals against average and a .955 save percentage in two games, while freshman Mitchell Gibson (3-0-0) has a 1.00 goals against average and a .968 save percentage in three starts, including one shutout.

ALL-TIME VS. HARVARD
Rensselaer trails the all-time series with Quinnipiac 38-57-8 … The Engineers won the inaugural meeting, 6-2, on December 27, 1951, in Troy.

RECENTLY
Harvard has won three out of the last five matchups against RPI going 3-1-1 … Rensselaer's last win against Harvard came on January 13, 2017, with a score of 4-0.

AT HOME
Rensselaer leads the series against Harvard at home 22-17-5.

LAST SEASON
Freshman Casey Dornbach scored in overtime to lift Harvard to a 3-2 victory over RPI at Bright-Landry Hockey Center ... The Crimson then answered a first period Engineers goal with two in the each of the final two periods for a 4-1 victory on March 1, 2019, at the Houston Field House.

STREAKS
Harvard won 12 of 13 games from 1986-1989 … The Engineers best stretch was from 1997-2000 when they won nine out of 10 games.

OVERTIME
Rensselaer has competed against Harvard in 11 overtime games leading those games with a record of 3-2-7.

SHUTOUTS
RPI has shut out Harvard a total of eight times with seven of them being wins ... The Engineers and Crimson played to a 0-0 tie on December 5, 2016.

ROUND II
RPI and Canisius met for the first time ever on October 19 ... After playing the Golden Griffins, the only two teams the Engineers have not played are Nebraska Omaha and Penn State.

After allowing the game's first goal, Engineers jumped on the Golden Griffins, scoring the next five in a 7-2 victory on October 19 at the Houston Field House ... Senior Patrick Polino led the way for RPI offensively, scoring one goal with three assists for four points ... Classmate Jake Marrello (2 goals, 1 assist) had three points, while Todd Burgess (2 goals) had two ... Owen Savory finished with 27 saves.

SCOUTING CANISIUS
The Golden Griffins enter the weekend at 2-7-0 overall and 1-3-0 in Atlantic Hockey play ... Junior Austin Alger (2 goals, 4 assists) and senior Matt Steif (1 goal, 5 assists) are tied for the team lead with six points apiece ... Senior Matt Hoover (1 goal, 4 assists) has five points, while classmate Nick Hutchison (3 goals, 1 assist) and freshman Simon Gravel (2 goals, 2 assists) have four each ... Sophomore Matt Ladd (2-4-0) has a 4.32 goals against average and an .863 save percentage in seven games (6 starts). 

FAMILIAR FOES
RPI head coach Dave Smith led the Golden Griffins for 12 years prior to arriving on the RPI campus ... He led Canisius to its first ever Atlantic Hockey Championship in 2012-13 and posted a record of 173-232-55, which included six seasons of 15 or more victories ... First-year assistant coach Scott Moser is a 2012 graduate of Canisius and played under Smith, wearing the 'C' during his senior season.

PLUS/MINUS LEADERS
Senior captain Will Reilly is a team-best +6 through 10 games this season, while classmate Mike Gornall is a +5 ... Fellow senior Jake Marrello is at +4, while freshmen Simon Kjellberg and Tristan Ashbrook are both +3.

FIRST GOALS
Tristan Ashbrook became the fourth player to net their first collegiate goal on November 9 against Clarkson ... Classmate Ryan Mahshie and each tallied in the season opener, while fellow rookie Simon Kjellberg scored his first NCAA goal against UConn on October 12.

ROOKIE OF THE MONTH
ECAC Hockey has announced its monthly award winners and Simon Kjellberg has been named Rookie of the Month ... He recorded two goals and two assists for four points in five October games ... He notched one goal and two assists on the power play for three points and was +3 rating for the month ... Kjellberg ranked first among ECAC Hockey rookies in goals, points, goals per game (0.40), points per game (0.80), power play assists, power play points, and plus/minus.
