Brown Slips Past Women's Hockey, 2-1

Teeghan Dalby nets first collegiate goal, but Engineers drop road league game

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Second period goals by sophomore Lizzy Gross and junior Megan Forrest helped lead the Brown University women's hockey team to a 2-1 conference win over RPI on Friday night in the team's home opener at Meehan Auditorium.

Gross and Forrest netted goals less than four minutes apart in the second period and senior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) made 31 saves in the victory. Brown (1-5-0, 1-2-0 ECAC) came-from-behind after trailing 1-0 following the first 20 minutes of play.

RPI (0-9-1, 0-3-0 ECAC) opened the game benefitting from a power-play goal at 10:09 by Teeghan Dalby and took that lead into the break. The Engineers outshot the Bears 11-3 in the frame and fought off one Brown power play.

The Bears picked up the tempo in the second and generated more shots on net, logging 11 on frame. Gross tied the game for Brown at 15:33 when she deflected in a pass from sophomore Mel Anderson (Plymouth, Mich.) in the slot. Senior Maybelline Beiring also picked up an assist on the score.

With the momentum, Forrest netted the go-ahead tally at 19:08 after sophomore Jacquie Tam (Toronto, Ontario) went coast-to-coast and left the puck off for her as she finished top shelf.

Isaac kept the Engineers off the board in both the second and third period with 11 and 10 saves, respectively. RPI pulled goalie Ena Nystrom at 18:00 of the third but a penalty was called on Julia Blitz at 18:19, forcing her back in net. The Bears worked the puck around their offensive zone during the power play and ultimately ran out the clock to hold on for the win.

RPI outshot Brown 32-21 overall, with the Bears tying the Engineers, 11-11, in the second period. Brown was 0-for-4 on its power-play chances while RPI was 1-for-2.

Brown closes out the weekend hosting Union tomorrow (3pm), while RPI visits Yale (3pm).
